Expeditions
Over the past 12 months Mad Dog
Expeditions and RV Tiburon have been exploring the deep wrecks
of the Ghost Fleet located off Key West, Florida. The wrecks of
these warships provide world class diving and one would have to
travel half way around the world to find anything comparable.
The most famous of these wrecks is the USS
Wilkes-Barre.
The USS Wilkes-Barre (CL 103) is over 600 feet long and rests in
waters from 140 to 250 feet deep. In addition to this awesome
wreck there are other equally exciting but rarely visited wrecks
located in nearby deeper waters. The 7 night 6 days rebreather
expeditions can be either exploratory or technical training
weeks. See the list and links below for additional wreck
details.
These expeditions are fine tuned and we specialize in ensuring
that all divers needs are met. We install a permanent buoy on
the Wilkes Barre for the duration of the trip and can reliably
hook the others. We bring redundant rebreather heads, deliver
equipment in advance of the trip, set up all bail out tanks,
redundant booster pumps for gas blending, scooters, a chase
boat, and deco station. In addition we have an emergency
recompression chamber that is set up prior to all deep dives.
All these elements combined with the comfortable accommodations
and great food aboard the Tiburon contribute towards
minimizing the work of technical diving.
All of the WWII Ghost ships are
within 20 miles of the Tiburon's home port, this allows the boat
to return to the dock every night for a restful night's sleep
and. The vessel is also equipped with wireless internet access
while underway allowing you to keep in touch with the office all
day if needed.
These deep technical dive programs are designed to attract
divers who share the same values and desires for exploration,
education, excitement and safety. RV Tiburon and Mad Dog
Expeditions have joined forces to offer a unique technical and
world class destination. Future Mad Dog projects include a
return to the Ghost Fleet wrecks as well as an offshore
exploration of the German freighter M/S
Rhien a 439-foot long
freighter, built in Hamburg, Germany and sunk (250fsw) in combat
in 1940 as well as the Araby Maid a barq rigged schooner sunk
(215fsw) in 1903.
"World Class WWII deep diving
and still on-line...This gives me an extra two weeks of
great diving a year because I can still stay in real time
contact with the office. Keeping my skills up and not piling
my in box up. Priceless! " Doug Rice; Owner New York
City Spaces, Inc.
